The BCS National Championship Game

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

A showdown between two of the most historic college football programs. A showdown between the two highest paid coaches. A showdown between 2 undefeated teams. A showdown on two Heisman trophy winners… Well, that part didn’t last through the first Texas drive of the game as Colt McCoy went down with a nerve injury in his throwing shoulder. Unfortunately for UT fans and college football fans, McCoy was not able to return and the game changed completely.
1. A true freshman got his first real playing time on the biggest stage in the nation.
2. Texas limited the playbook.
3. Texas lost momentum.
4. Alabama really limited its offensive playbook.
5. Alabama played defense like it was playing against a freshman qb.

It was a good game and, if McCoy had played, it might have been a GREAT game. In the end, Texas got beat because of power running: Bama’s ability to do it and UT’s inability. That said, if Texas can develop a running game and replace some key defensive loses, they will have a good shot at being in the National Title talk when next year comes to an end.

As for Texas victories: Muschamp is not going to Tennessee to coach for $3 million per year, and national signing day (Texas has another strong class) is just around the corner.
